Royal jelly is a honey bee secretion that is used in the nutrition of larvae, as well as adult queens. It is secreted from the glands in the hypopharynx of worker bees, and fed to all larvae in the colony, regardless of sex or caste.

When worker bees decide to make a new queen, because the old one is either weakening or dead, they choose several small larvae and feed them with copious amounts of royal jelly in specially constructed queen cells. This type of feeding triggers the development of queen morphology, including the fully developed ovaries needed to lay eggs.

Royal jelly is composed of 67% water, 12.5% crude protein, including small amounts of many different amino acids, and 11% simple sugars (monosaccharides), also including a relatively high amount (5%) of fatty acids. The main acid is the 10-hydroxy-2-decenoic acid or 10-HDA (about 2 - 3%). It also contains many trace minerals, some enzymes, antibacterial and antibiotic components, pantothenic acid (vitamin B5), vitamin B6 (pyridoxine) and trace amounts of vitamin C, but none of the fat-soluble vitamins, A, D, E and K.

Royalactin

The component of royal jelly that causes a bee to develop into a queen appears to be a single protein that has been called royalactin. Jelly which had been rendered inactive by prolonged storage had a fresh addition of each of the components subject to decay and was fed to bees; only jelly with an addition of royalactin caused the larvae to become queens. Royalactin also induces similar phenotypical change in the fruitfly (Drosophila melanogaster), marked by increased body size and ovary development.

God says in the Holy Book:

16: 69. Then to eat of all the produce (of the earth), and find with skill the spacious paths of its Lord: there issues from within their bodies a drink of varying colours, wherein is healing for men: verily in this is a Sign for those who give thought.

Quran indicates secretion of various liquids from the body of the honey bee. In medical terms we call them "Enzymes". During old times, it was thought that the verse referred to Honey. However, the true meaning of the Quranic Verse came to light, when German scientists successfully isolated this enzyme. Now, it is very well understood that this enzyme contains health giving characteristics.

The enzyme was named Royal Jelly because it is the food given to the Queen bee. Other type of bees i.e. drones and workers are given this "royal food" for only a few days. A bee larva increases its weight 350 fold till it reaches its adult size.

Initially, the German company marketed it in the form of liquid as well as tablets. These days, most royal jelly is imported from China.

It is basically used for following conditions:

1. Continuous weight loss, lack of appetite, recovery from illness, and recovery from post-natal weakness

2. General body weakness, physical and mental stress and weakness

3. Chronic diseases like liver disorders, anaemia, infection of blood vessels and clotting of blood therein, pain of joints, arthritis, degenerative diseases of body organs, and peptic ulcer

A large number of people use it on regular basis and report excellent results. They find it much better than other tonics and multi-vitamins.

It is a proven treatment for chronic stomach ulcer

"Few years  back, injections based on honey were imported from Germany. The manufacturer claimed their excellent results for treatment of general body weakness, allergy and resultant skin diseases especially Eczema.

For ordinary pain in joints, the medicine is injected in muscle or vein. However, in case of swollen joints, the shots are injected directly into the joints.

These injections were marketed as "M2-Woellum" and were manufactured by Wellcome, based in Cologne, Germany. It is interesting to note that the company mentioned that they got the idea from the above mentioned Quranic verse.

Professor Stuart from USA reached an astonishing result. He put the germs of Tuberculosis and other pus producing germs in honey. None of the germ types could survive in honey.
